When Holly Moore takes a trip, he brings his camera to document and rate all of the hot dog, barbecue, hoagie, lobster roll, hamburger stands and diners that he visits. His rule: No chain restaurants! Get a fast food restaurant education and hundreds of ideas at HOLLYEATS.com
There are LA guys that do something similar with LA Hot Dog Stands at Hotdogspot.com
If you want to jump feet first into the hot dog business you can buy a cart from allamericanhotdog.com. The self-proclaimed King of Hot Dogs claims that with a good spot you can sell $300-$500 a day. You have no overhead and food costs are about 1/3. That wouldn't be bad if it was just you and one cart. If you hired people and had 10-20 carts, Do the math. Those poor people having to lower themselves to sell hot dogs from a cart may know more than we do. It is kind of a wild website even if you are not interested in becoming a hot dog mogul. There are over 1800 hot dog stands in Chicago and one of the biggest purveyors for the Chicago-style hot dog is Vienna Beef. They sell a manual on their website for about $50 that tells you everything you need to know to get a hot dog stand up and running.
